CARE & MAINTENANCE

Start with temperature control. Temperatures should be kept between 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the relative humidity should be between 35 – 55% at all times.

Use exterior and interior doormats at all entrances to collect dirt and moisture and prevent it from being tracked on to the floor. Area rugs are recommended at all pivot points and within high traffic areas such as kitchen sinks and hallways. Do not use rugs with rubber or vinyl backing. This is to prevent staining and entrapment of moisture. Use only non slip pads recommended for use on wood floors.

Use furniture leg protector pads (felt or indoor outdoor carpet type) under all furniture that is placed on your new floor. Make sure to remove any metal or hard plastic caps that are on the bottom of the legs prior to applying furniture protectors. Make certain to keep them clean and well maintained. Chairs with plastic casters should be replaced with rubber caster wheels. Make sure to keep pets nails trimmed.

Do not roll, or drag heavy objects across your floor. Do not wear shoes having heel taps, spikes, cleats, rocks, gravel or sharp objects protruding from the sole.

Vacuum, sweep or dust mop your floor once a week or more if needed. The vacuum head should be a brush or felt attachment. Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar head. Make sure to vacuum interior doormats and shake debris from exterior doormats regularly.

Spills, pet accidents, or tracked in dirt should be cleaned immediately. The sooner a mess is removed, the easier it is to clean up and prevent tracking. We recommend Basic Coatings Squeaky Clean, Bruce Armstrong wood floor cleaner, Mannington wood floor cleaner or Bona X Hardwood Floor Cleaner for regular cleaning and removing grease and smudges from your floor. Never clean or wet mop with water! Water may permanently damage the floor. Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners, bleach, ammonia or vinegar based cleaners, wax or acrylic polishes, or oil soaps.

When high traffic areas begin to show wear and become delustered (this will be noticed by a white cast and dulling of the shine), it may be time for a fresh coat of finish to be applied to your floor to enhance the longevity and beauty of your investment. Both Basic Coatings and Bona Kemi have systems to recoat your floor with high quality urethane finishes. Contact your flooring retailer for details.

From your left over material, select a piece of flooring approximately 12” long (medium color tone) to use as your scratch touch-up template. Now you are ready to begin the touch-up process.

Taking a sharp object create 5-6 scratches on the surface of your template.

Take your template to your local craft store (Michaels) and go to the section where they keep felt tip markers i.e. Sharpies pens. Match with the color(s) that come closest to the color of your flooring. Note, It may be necessary to use several colors within the same scratch (starting with the lightest color first) in order to achieve the best overall color tone/blend. The variety of shapes and sizes allows the individual applying the stain/color the ability to control the amount of stain being applied to the scratch.

Once you have achieved the desired color tone, you can apply water base polyurethane (which can be purchased at your local Lowes or Home Depot) over the stain using a micro-fine “tipped” artist brush. Note: Typically, it is not necessary to apply polyurethane over scratches that are less than 1/16” wide.

Your main objective when touching up a scratch is to soften the scratches effect to the eye.

NOBLE CASTLE HARD WAX FLOOR MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

After installation it is important to thoroughly clean the flooring of all dust dirt and debris.

First, sweep the floor using a soft bristle broom or a vacuum WITHOUT a beater bar or tack cloth.

Next, use OSMO “Wash and Care” to remove any additional dirt and dust remaining on the floor. For normal cleaning dilute OSMO “Wash and Care” at a rate of one cap full per one quart. Apply the OSMO “Wash and Care” using a micro fiber pad and wipe off using a clean micro fiber pad. For heavier marks or stains, you can use OSMO “Wash and Care” undiluted.

If a more thorough cleaning is required, use the OSMO Liquid Wax Cleaner. Apply the OSMO Liquid Wax Cleaner with a WHITE PAD and remove with a buffer at low speed (175 rpm). Buff to an even sheen.

In some cases added protection may be desired. In these cases a flooring professional can apply an additional coat of OSMO PolyX 3054 after the flooring has been cleaned as described above.

Regular Daily Dry Cleaning:

For day to day cleaning of dust and loose dirt you should use sweep daily or as necessary. Use either a soft bristled broom, a vacuum cleaner WITHOUT a beater bar.

Regular Damp Cleaning:

For spills and other stubborn dirt and stains and regular damp cleaning, use the OSMO “Wash and Care” concentrate. OSMO “Wash and Care” is specifically formulated for your OSMO finished floor and removes most day to day stains from your wood floor simply and easily.

OSMO “Wash and Care” is normally diluted at a rate of 1 cap full per 1 quart on water and sprayed on the surfaces or applied with a micro fiber mop. For heavier stains, OSMO “Wash and Care” can be used in a more concentrated from to suit the level of soiling.

The Oils that are contained in OSMO “Wash and Care” help to regenerate the wood surface and should be the ONLY product used to clean your floor. DO NOT use other cleaners designed for urethane finished floors.

Periodical Refreshing & Intensive Cleaning:

Over time, you may see some dulling of the surface of your floor, especially in high traffic areas. To refresh those dull looking floor surface areas, use OSMO Liquid Wax Cleaner. OSMO Liquid Wax Cleaner is designed specifically to refresh and renew the surface.

First, clean the surface with OSMO “Wash and Care”. Then simply apply a thin layer of OSMO Liquid Wax Cleaner using an active micro fiber pad. For larger areas, you or a flooring professional can apply using a buffing machine following the OSMO instructions.

For white finished floors OSMO also offers a Liquid Wax Cleaner in white (3087).

To clean very heavily soiled surfaces OSMO Liquid Wax Cleaner should be applied in small amounts directly to the affected area.

Protective Surface Renewal:

To retain the original surface properties over years you must renew the worn surface areas using various OSMO Polyx-Oil products (appropriate to the original finish). This is typically best done by a floor finish professional. The frequency of this renewal will be dependent on many factors including your life style, location, children, pets, etc. The more use the floor receives, the more you will likely renew that surface.

First clean the floor surface thoroughly using the OSMO products as above. Allow to dry thoroughly and then apply a very thin coat of OSMO Polyx-Oil. Allow to dry overnight.

After installation it is important to thoroughly clean the flooring of all dust dirt and debris and also apply a minimum of one additional coat of OSMO PolyX-Oil.

After thoroughly cleaning the floor apply a minimum of one coat of the OMSO 3054 Polyx-Oil. Apply a thin layer of the OMSO 3054 Polyx-Oil by troweling it on with a steel flat edged blade applicator. It can also be applied using a new squirt bottle with the tip cut to approximately 3/16”. In both cases only apply as much OMSO 3054 Polyx-Oil that can be buffed out within 20 to 30 minutes so it will not dry prior to buffing. Use a white pad to buff out the OMSO 3054 Polyx-Oil until you have a consistent sheen. AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE: Apply the OMSO 3054 Polyx-Oil with ONLY a THIN coat.
